Let me put it like this...

I went through the start line at 350.  Hit the first gate (end of runway...let's call this gate 2, where the start line is gate 1)   at 470 pulling 11 G around to the west leg.  I hit gate 5 supersonic before throwing out the boards.... crossing gate 6 at 582 and hauling through the hard right sucking the boards in halfway through... I passed gate 7 at about 450 unloading to 5G.  If I held much more speed (ie 550), I wouldn't have made the cut.  Now yes, through the first couple of gates I could bring it back up to 550...but would have needed a couple of gates on the brakes in order to get down around 400 to make the curve to head back on the southbound leg.

That's why I say yes you could "run the slalom" at 550 but it wouldn't make for a good run.  Hit 550?  Yeah, that'd make a good run.  But not trying to carry 550 through the whole thing.

Agree on the "burner to the 2nd to last gate before the 360"...should be able to get supersonic here as well.  Robin did live, I did in practice but didn't quite get there live.  I hit my braking point without realizing I started southbound ~ 50 knots slower than I expected...I went into the 360 at about 480 which was a decent speed, but I allowed way too much of it to bleed off and that's what killed me.

As for the finish, I crossed at 525 with 600# in the tank.  350-400?  You taking a nap?  Cheesy

(damn, that was fun.  Cheesy

Wow, Teej, you're serious about this race ! Grin

I wa a bit slow in the first half, it seems Tongue But agreed, the 360 should start around 500 kts (not too much more, or you'll have a hard time getting the first 2 gates), turn and burn till the next gate and then Full A/B, around corner speed and just on the edge of the blacking out (and trying to anticipate the turns - ie, pass the gates with your turn rate already built up, that eases a lot the whole thing)

Man, next year's Air race is gonna be in for some serious challenge Grin

Decided to fly a few more passes today.

Gotta love the shallow turns around a pylon.

I think I owe someone a pylon.  Cheesy  (No part of the plane came in contact, but the burner flames did...plus I'm sure the air being pushed by an F-15 doing > 9G wouldn't be too kind.  Cheesy

Oh yes, she is a bit squirrely.  Wink

Slight language misunderstanding...when I wrote "Ya think?!"  that's a way of strongly agreeing with you.

Like if you jumped into water that's 3* C and said "Hey, that's cold!"   "Ya think?!"

Flying a 'Red Bull' style race with LO FC sounds really great.  Grin
